Mercy Health Foundation’s greatest need at the present time because:
→ Early detection of breast cancer is crucial
→ The use rate for mammograms for La Plata County is below the state-wide average
→ Digital mammography is the most progressive screening and diagnostic service and is not available at Mercy at this time
→ Breast MRI is an effective diagnostic and interventional tool and is currently not available at Mercy at this time
→ Many of the lab tests for breast cancer are having to be sent out of state, taking 5-7 days for results
→ Bringing all of the diagnostic services together in a single location will provide a comprehensive program for the women in our region and increase the rate of early detection
→ Women will no longer have to travel for many breast care services
→ Men can get breast cancer too
