In addition to traditional health care, Mercy Regional Medical Center recognizes the role meditation and relaxation can play in healing and is pleased to offer patients and visitors a labyrinth for their reflection. Unlike mazes, labyrinths contain no false turns or dead ends, so individuals are able to follow the gentle twists and turns as they peacefully wind their way along a path leading from the labyrinth's entrance to it's center.
Labyrinths have existed for thousands of years and were once considered sacred gateways. Mercy's labyrinth - funded by a donation to Mercy Health Foundation from Merl Short on behalf of his wife Marilyn - is based on an ancient version located in a French cathedral. Mercy has more plans for this area of the facility and continues to need contributions to enhance its beauty. The labyrinth at Mercy is located near the Healing Garden and is open to visitors and patients during daylight hours.
Mercy Regional Medical Center's Labyrinth features 11 circuits (paths from the outside edge to the center) that lead to the center rosette.
